KKR Triumph in IPL 2014 Final

Kolkata Knight Riders outplay Punjab Kings to claim championship

Bangalore City Stadium, June 1, 2014

Kolkata Knight Riders emerged victorious in the 2014 Indian Premier League final, defeating Punjab Kings by three wickets in a thrilling encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

With the Kings setting a target of 199 runs, the Knight Riders navigated through a challenging chase, guided by Man of the Match Manish Pandey's unbeaten 94 off just 50 deliveries. Pandey's innings, complemented by cameos from Robin Uthappa (30) and Yusuf Pathan (29*), propelled Kolkata to victory with two balls to spare.

KXIP opener Virender Sehwag provided a blazing start to the Kings' innings, striking a quickfire 122 off 58 balls studded with 12 fours and eight sixes. However, the Knight Riders bowling attack, led by Umesh Yadav (2/33) and Morne Morkel (2/44), restricted Punjab to a total of 198/4.

The victory marked Kolkata's second IPL title triumph, adding to their 2012 crown. Captain Gautam Gambhir lauded his team's resilience and spirit, crediting them for overcoming adversity throughout the tournament. "I'm so proud of these boys. They've shown great character and determination all season long," said Gambhir. KXIP captain George Bailey acknowledged the Knight Riders' strong performance, wishing them congratulations on their victory.
