Goldman Sachs hires former Australian treasurer Frydenberg

Ex-politician takes on global role at investment bank

Frydenberg will advise clients on investment strategies and capital markets

Former Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg has joined Goldman Sachs as a global co-head of its infrastructure and private equity business, the investment bank announced on Monday.

Frydenberg left politics in May after the Liberal-National coalition government was defeated in the federal election. He had served as treasurer since 2018, and was responsible for overseeing the country's economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his new role at Goldman Sachs, Frydenberg will be based in Sydney and will advise clients on investment strategies and capital markets. He will also work with the firm's global infrastructure and private equity team to identify and execute investment opportunities.

Frydenberg's appointment is a significant coup for Goldman Sachs, which is one of the world's leading investment banks. It is also a sign of the growing importance of the infrastructure and private equity sectors in Australia.

"Josh is a highly respected and experienced leader with a deep understanding of the global economy and financial markets," said Jim O'Neill, chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

"His expertise will be invaluable to our clients as they navigate the increasingly complex and challenging investment landscape."

Frydenberg said he was "excited to join Goldman Sachs and contribute to the firm's continued success."
