Alison Lee Opens Up About ‘Intimidating’ Suzzan Pettersen Brawl After 9 Years as Solheim Cup Rematch Fast Approaches

Solheim Cup opponents Alison Lee and Suzann Pettersen exchange words over the controversial 2015 incident

Solheim Cup rivals Alison Lee and Suzann Pettersen have broken their silence over their infamous 2015 on-course altercation, which is back in the spotlight ahead of this week's rematch.

The American and Norwegian, who will face off as captains of their respective teams at this week's Solheim Cup in Spain, have not spoken publicly about the incident that took place in Germany nine years ago.

Speaking to the media ahead of the tournament, Lee said that the incident had been "intimidating" and that she had been "upset" by Pettersen's behavior.

"I think it was just a very unfortunate incident," Lee said. "I didn't appreciate the way that she handled it. It was very intimidating. I was upset about it."

Pettersen, who has always maintained that she was justified in her actions, said that she was "sorry" for the way the incident had been handled, and said that she had reached out to Lee to try and clear the air.

"I think it was just a misunderstanding," Pettersen said. "I didn't mean to intimidate her or anything like that. I was just trying to get my point across.

"I'm sorry for the way it was handled. I've reached out to her to try and clear the air. I hope we can move on from it.

The incident happened during the second day of the 2015 Solheim Cup, when Pettersen was walking down the 17th fairway and Lee was walking up the 18th fairway. Pettersen stopped to say something to Lee, and the pair then exchanged words.

The incident was caught on camera, and the footage was widely shared on social media.

The 2023 Solheim Cup is set to take place at Finca Cortesin in Spain, from September 22-24.
