Yale's Presidential Search Committee Announces the Appointment of Maurie D. McInnis

Yale University has appointed Maurie D. McInnis as its 24th president. Her appointment concludes a nine-month presidential search.

Current Stony Brook President, Maurie D. McInnis, will take over the role of Yale University President in the summer of 2024. On behalf of the presidential search committee, the chair of the search committee, William H. Bowen, stated "Over nearly a decade of leadership at Stony Brook, Maurie has demonstrated that she is a transformative and visionary leader with the strategic insight, interpersonal skills, and values to build on Yale's strengths and lead us into a future of even greater innovation, impact and distinction."

McInnis, a renowned scholar and leader in higher education, expressed her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to serve as Yale's next president. "I am honored to have been chosen to lead Yale University, one of the world's leading institutions of higher education and research," McInnis said. "I am eager to work with the Yale community to build on the university's legacy of excellence and innovation, and to shape its future in a rapidly changing world."

McInnis, a native of Jamaica, earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and her PhD in chemistry from Yale University. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1996, where she rose through the ranks to become the Robert W. Parry Collegiate Professor of Chemistry and chair of the Department of Chemistry.

In 2013, McInnis was appointed president of Stony Brook University, where she has overseen significant growth and progress. Under her leadership, Stony Brook has achieved record levels of research funding, expanded its academic offerings, and strengthened its commitment to diversity and inclusion. McInnis is also a strong advocate for making higher education more accessible and affordable.

McInnis's appointment as Yale's next president is a historic moment for the university. She will be the first woman and the first person of color to lead Yale in its 323-year history. Her appointment is a testament to her remarkable achievements and her inspiring vision for the future of higher education.

Founded in 1701, it is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the nine Colonial Colleges chartered before the American Revolution.
